I believe individuals are comprised of personal attributes enhanced or affected by familial and cultural realities. These realities bring astounding beauty, while they can also be a part of significant harm. It is the therapist’s privelege to participate in examining both beauty and harm, and to participate in the celebration of victories in client experiences. This untangling happens through connecting individuals back to themselves and their communities, and in building new community. Therapy provides an incredible environment to explore where your beauty and value has been harmed by unsafe people or circumstances. Together we will look at the struggles, and chart a path forward towards thriving.
I have an eclectic model of therapy that includes elements from these models: Relational, Narrative, Object Relations, Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), and Multicultural influences. You can expect to share a lot about yourself and your experiences, and receive my interaction around feelings and rules you’ve set for yourself, or have been dictated by others. Together we will explore how you came to be who you are with room to examine what is now holding you back, and also what is currently helping you thrive. I often assign homework as this helps explore ideas we’ve discussed in session.
